Today I saw Metropolis by Fritz Lang – less machine reference in it than I thought, but still, something to look at, especially in the first part of the movie, just the very beginning. It was done in 1925 so, yes, some designs are really impressive. It just seems how groundbreaking was this film (or I believe so).
Maybe less topic related, but still useful – been to The Golden Age of Couture exhibition in Victoria & Albert Museum. Besides all the matters of delicate sublimity about Mr. Dior and co.'s tailoring there was a great chance to see some brilliant pieces of fashion photography by Richard Avedon, Irving Penn and Frank Horvat. Majority of their works was for American magazine Harper's Bazaar – but also some illustrations made by Rene Gruan and Jacque Demechy.
A surname also worth looking at: Munkacsi.
