023. storyboard work.

022. storyboard script.

camera enters the 'chamber'.
(diplay of a chamber, itroduction of machinery, proces, and a character.)
done in slow motion with all the sounds slowed down, therefore sounding monsteriffic.
fade in -> CLOSE UP of a cylinder higher part, slowly moving down. some rusty piece of metal on it with russian

letters. (1)
a shot from a WORM VIEW, from the bottom part of a cylinder hitting area, facing straight up, onto a cillinder

slowly coming closer, with the sound of creating of (proznia) then disturbed metalic 'clash', while a screen goes

completely blackand after a while cylinder lifts again, even slower. (2)
cut to: the extractor covers move up and down in a slashing manner (3)
cut to: first shot from robot's POV, we see the robot in the front of him, his back and his arms pinned up with

mechanics. (4)
cut to: very film noir shot - a view from behind of a ventilating fan, moving really slowly. also, the camera TRUCKS

UP. (5)
cut to: a LOW shot of a rotating barrel in the fron of surgeon, but the way it doesn't feature its purpose. a barrel

rotates in a sercular manner. everything still and dead slow, with ambient noise in the background, which is the

actual sfx slowed down.(6)
cut to: normal shot of a cylinder smashing just as in the shot 2, but from different angle. (7)
cut to: CLOSE UP shot of extracting 'tool' of a surgeon. the tool sudenly opens and makes a movement towards

somethhing off screen.(8)
cut to: repeat shot 2. (9)
cut to: continuity of shot no. 5 - camera continues tracking up going past second fan. - the sound changes, going

through kind of fusion effect of speeding up suddenly as we - (10)
cut to: robot's POV - now everything at normal speed. sudden thurst of the belt (not sudden, but the effect of it).

can be add: camera shake and motion blur. and then a second thurst and pause. (11)
cut to: a pan shot from robot profile view, to his front view, as he approaches the slider. as he slides down

rapidly camera moves with him down (with all the blurs to add effect) when he's at the bottom - (12)
cut to: High Shot of the robot. being tracked with the machinery towards the 'barrel' (13)
(this is where I want to start bulding a dramaturgy of a forthcoming end of this robot, therefore jungling with

shots of robot, surgeon, barrel, and screens)
cut to: r2d2 wandering somewhere. TRACK right.(14)
cut to: Robot POV once more, where we get a chance to see a surgeon doing his thing (15)
cut to: Low Shot of surgeon hitting the other robots (16)
cut to: Medium shot of data on screens flicking(17)
(repeat them, in a dominuendo manner, till 'our' robot gets in the front of the surgeon, and there is a power cut)
cut to: FULL SHOT of a robot and the surgeon), (18)
cut to: close up, of robot lifting the head, and lighting up slightly(19)
cut to: close up of a pipe, somewhere in the chamber, with a water droping, few seconds of silence. maybe three.

two. (20)
cut to: LOW SHOW of robot, with surgeon powering up and drilling into him again, (21)
cut to: screans flickering (longer take) (22)
cut to: the rubish left after crushed robot is being pushed down the ramp to the recycling pit with a recycling logo

on the wall in the background.(23)
fade to black (with sounds still on)

storyboard shot to follow up soon.

021. camera.

finally I've got my hands on maya file, and will be able to do some camera pre-runs.

020. - Afterfall.

Afterfall is a game-in-developement under some unknown polish games company.
website.
I am posting a video below, to get you the idea how visualisation we're asked to do might look like. or might not look like, as personally I think it is tremendously boring, and we should aim to do something definately quicker in cinematographique terms.

019. - Denis Severs House.

The visit to Denis Severs house in Spitalfields, London was a mistery itself (especialy after a communication problem at the start) - finally me, Matt and Bartholomew got there. First impression when I came in, to the basement was 'just like at ma grand-grand-mother's house back in Poland that I remember from childhood'. And maybe that was the purpose of creating this - to bring back memories. I doubt it, because surely guests from eastern/central Europe are not the most obvious ones here.

Talking about the great number and multiplicity of various objects inside this place would be pointless, as this is not a point - this can be done with any thing, any where - but the way these items are positioned, lit, covered in fragrance - makes this unique experience.
The lighting is the most interesting thing in my opinion. The way objects are half covered in shadow, the contrast, all seems to be so carefully arranged to create a mood of old, dusty with a hint of romantism - house.
For instance - a bedroom. All the candles are on one side of the room, therefore shodows distribute with no distortion - and there is door on the oposite side, but the light coming through door is being 'cought' by the bed positioned just in the front of it, so it does not change the climate of intimacy inside.

018. - Bjork.

Some time ago Matt told me about a Bjork's videoclip I should look at. Firstly I thought he meant 'Earth Intruders', but now, accidentaly I found out how wrong was I then.
It's called 'All Is Full Of Love' and, indeed, it is a good reference on robotic engineering.

017. - Honda Advert 'Cog'.

.

016 - The Way Things Go.

We've been shown The Way Things Go – a short ('short' in this case means just above half an hour) movie created in 1987 by the Swiss artist duo Peter Fischli and David Weiss.

015. - PythagoraSwitch.

PythagoraSwitch is a 15 minute Japanese educational television program where children's "way of thinking" is argumented under the supervision of Masahiko Satō and Masumi Uchino.

014. - Tom & Jerry

Tom & Jerry: Design on Tom features a brilliant, clever humour, where main characters' counterparts drawn on a blueprint come to live and the farce begins: a blueprint Jerry comes off a scetch to warn Jerry about the machine Tom is planning to create. They change the parameters of it what results in trap hitting Tom and Jerry getting off with a piece of cheese.

013. - Aphex Twin.

Ajdin just phoned me, telling to look at videos by Aphex Twin, as it may be good reference. In other words - he'd like the video to have that aphenixtwinesque look in it. As I am not a big fan of this artist, decided to have another look at him in the most obvious of places - youtube.
Here's the impression.

012. - Kraftwerk.

technical reference. class difference theme may benefit from it.

We're charging our battery
And now we're full of energy
We're functioning automatic
And we are dancing mechanic
Ja tvoi sluga, (I'm your servant.)
ja tvoi Rabotnik (I'm your worker.)
We are programmed just to do
Anything you want us to.

011. - Nine Inch Nails.

today we are talking about a National Insurance Number.

Tuesday 23 October 2007

010. - Robot Football World Cup.

about robotic football.
everyone who has seen "Terminator" or "Transformers" knows, that a take over of the world by robots is just a matter of time. I don't know a date, or time, but I know how the machines train before the last battle against the humanity - they play football.
Few weeks ago an event called "Robot Athletic Meet 2007" took place in Tokyo, Japan, where the best mechanical sportsmen from all over the world decided to run after a common football.

check a video for some reference on how the 'real' robot moves.
